Sri Somanatha Sathakam
About The Origin
Of Somanatha Sathakam
After penance and after
realising divine powers, Sri Maharshi wanted to put down his invaluable experiences and
ideas in writing. During childhood he did not have formal education. He got worried about
his own inability to bring his feelings into written words. While contemplating on the
matter he had the divine vision of the universal Goddess of knowledge as Parasakthi who
told him "O Soma! Do not worry that you are unlettered. I am here to lead you with
the pen. Go ahead". This Parasakthi was his own inner self but he was not aware
of his own power, being in a human frame. Thus the words of all the verses carry meanings
of deep spiritual import which are of immense help not only to practitioners of Manoyoga
but also to people of all walks of life. One may read thousands of books but to understand
them thoroughly is very difficult in the present times.
Sri Maharshis intention is to help
people to attain liberation in this life itself by spending a short time in reading this
book and comprehending its content. So, for those who read this book and practice
accordingly, he has made it possible to attain self realisation, liberation, and cessation
of rebirth. The hundred and odd verses of this small book contain the essence of the four
vedas, eighteen puranas, nine grammar treatises and hundreds of Upanishads - in short, all
scriptural matter in a manner accessible to all. The power of chanting of these verses is
virtually the power of the Universal Mother. It is indescribable and can be only
experienced. All can read it and attain liberation.
Verse 1
Veda sastrameruga emani
telupudu
Geeta maargamanina gurutu ledu
Bhagavatamanna bhaavane theliyadu
Ramayanameruga rachanetla jetu Soma.
No scriptural knowledge
No memory of the Geeta
No idea of Bhagavatam
Know not Ramayana, how to write O Soma!
I am hesitating
to express myself in writing regarding the origin of man in this eternal creation and my
personal experiences in this regard so as to help mankind to attain liberation. I feel I
am incapable of putting my thoughts into written words. I am unlettered. I had no
opportunity to study scriptures. I have no knowledge of the ancient lores as I had no
schooling at all. I know nothing about the Geeta, Bhagavatam and Ramayana. How can I
venture to write?
Sri Somanatha Yogi was firmly established
in deep meditation and with a total inner concentration started contemplating in this
manner. Then the eternal all-pervading Supreme power which was his own inner self
addressed him Thus :
Verse 2
Somanatha yogi chaduvu
sastramedi
Sandehamulaku nee sandesamedi
Sahakaarame naadi srikarame needi
Saginchu kavitambu saagune Soma.
Which is the scripture studied by Sage Somanatha
What is your message for the doubts
Beginning is yours, help is mine
Proceed to write, it will go on O Soma!
Oh Soma! You have
attained perfection in yoga and are endowed with superhuman power which is called
yogasakti. Since you are in a human frame, you are not aware of your power, which is far
superior to mere education and scriptural knowledge. Now you will use this inner power and
through that knowledge gained translate it into answers to the queries raised. The
assistance for this purpose of providing the answers will be rendered by myself (that is
nothing but the yogic power within you).
